The 2011 National Sailing Hall of Fame Induction creremony was dedicated to Walter Cronkite on the grounds of the San Diego Yacht Club on Sunday )t. 23, 2011. The inductees were a who's who of sailing's greats. The only women in this first group was Elizabeth "Betsy" Gelenitis Alison,Hobart "Hobie" Alter,Capt. Charles "Charlie" Barr,Paul Pierre Cayard, Dennis Walter Conner,Capt. Nathanael Greene Herreshoff,Gary Alan Jobson,Harry C. "Buddy" Melges Jr.,Emil "Bus" Mosbacher Jr.,Lowell Orten North,Joshua Slocum,
Olin James Stephens II,Robert Edward "Ted" Turner,Harold Sterling "Mike" Vanderbilt, Family members of those not living received the award for their relitives.
