April 2025, an ice storm covers the trees on Beach Mountain, North Carolina. Beech Mountain's high altitude and cold temperatures can still lead to instances of rime ice or snow coating trees. This process results in a coating of ice crystals, often with a feathery or spiky appearance. Unlike snow, which is precipitation that falls from the sky, rime ice forms on objects due to freezing fog.
